Learning Outside the Classroom

I suppose that if we approach life correctly, then every experience is a learning experience.

Yes, that is the challenge.

Today I learned that I shouldn't take myself too seriously.

Tomorrow I will learn that "wise is the man who says what needs to be said, but not all that could be said."

Someday I hope to learn that I shouldn't run faster than I have have strength, and when to say "no".

My brother is an IronMan.

He makes it look easy to swim 2.4 miles in open water, bike 112 miles, and run 26.2 miles in under 14 hours.  In St. George, Utah.  In 90 degree heat.

The first time I watched him race, I was absolutely overwhelmed with the absolutely immense effort that was made by the 2000 athletes participating.  I spent most of the day near tears.  There were 18 year old teenagers, 65 year old retirees, a man with one leg missing, men and women who suffered with every step and others who were having a ball.

I couldn't help but ask myself the question: "Is there an IronMan in me?"

I'm not so sure I could do it.  But the bigger question is: What choices do I make every day and what challenges do I endure that qualify me for a personal IronMan competition?  And do I face my challenges with handicaps, do I suffer with every step, or am I having a ball?

Those are questions I ask myself every day now.  Because I want to be an IronMan.

This is what I'm reading now
